Doris Brougham, a missionary from Seattle, assisted by Leland and Dorothy Haggerty, established Heavenly Melody under the umbrella of Overseas Radio and Television, Inc. (now known as ORTV). Heavenly Melody is acknowledged as the first evangelistic Christian musical group in Taiwan. It has the distinction of being the first Christian television program aired in Taiwan. The Voice of Heavenly Melody was featured weekly on the National Taiwan Television station beginning in 1963.This program remained on the air for the next fifteen years, making the songs of Heavenly Melody widely known around the island.
